The Gospel is shared in Passing
by Bro. Dwayne Cook

A dear friend of mine is fond of saying that the Gospel is shared in passing. In other words we received the gospel as our lives passed by others, as two ships pass by each other. The cargo from one is shared with the other in hopes that it may share with ships met on its route.

True stewardship involves sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. This witness may be given by word of mouth; just telling others about Jesus and what He means to you. Or it may be given by the life you lead; letting others see Jesus in you. In either case—by life or lip—you should say to others, "Jesus Christ is the most important priority in my life, and I want you to know him and love him as I do."

Dr. Lyman Beecher was once asked: “What do you count the greatest thing a human being can do?” He replied: “The greatest thing a human being can do is to bring another human being to Jesus Christ as Savior.”

Dr. Charles L. Goodell wrote: “It is a great hour when a surgeon holds a scalpel at the end of which is life or death for a patient. It is a greater hour when a lawyer faces a jury, with the conviction that if he makes a mistake, an innocent man will hang and a family be disgraced forever. But the greatest hour any human being ever faces is the hour when he stands before a man hastening to his condemnation and is commissioned to offer him a pardon that is to last for the eternities.”

The great evangelist D. L. Moody was once asked wherein his power lay. He replied: “I made a promise to God, and the rule of my life is, that I would speak to at least one man every day about his soul’s salvation.” To this it was objected that the opportunity does not always present itself. Immediately Mr. Moody responded: “It will if you keep in touch with God and keep your eyes open for the opportunity.”

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth ( Acts 1:8, NLT).
