Purpose Statement
by A.J. Wilson

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.  This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”  Matthew 22:37-40

“. . . and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 (Math 28:19-20)

“As I besought thee . . . that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables . . . rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.  Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:” 1 Tim 1:3-5 (portions)

“For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:” Tit 1:5

A great opportunity awaits you on Wednesday night of this week.  We have selected this night to try to pull together a purpose statement for Rowletts Baptist Church.  We have already been charged by Bro. Dwayne to have scriptures to back our thoughts up, so I thought I would give a few brief scriptures and thoughts to spur your own mind in preparation for Wednesday.

As Christians, we are to be “mini-Christs”, and therefore have the same purpose as Jesus did here on Earth.  We know that God intended to bring his message to all the world, through his people.  God’s Word is to be spread among all the world, and Jesus made the statement above from Matthew concerning his ‘Bible’ (the Old Testament).  Is this the purpose of RBC?

We also have the Great Commission by Jesus, to go and make disciples.

We are left on Earth as God’s church to do his work.  Paul the great church planter/missionary wrote letters to many of these churches he started, and admonished their leaders to do certain things (some shown above.)

What do you believe should be the purpose of Rowletts Baptist Church?  Why do you believe so?  What support do you have from the Bible?  These are the questions we need to be ready to answer come Wednesday night.  Come out and share in this exciting process with us.
