Thankfulness for Church
“We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren,
as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of
every one of you all abounds toward each other,” 1 Thessalonians 1:3 I am very thankful for my church
family this Thanksgiving.
This verse seems to be describing our church
fellowship very well. I want to share a small part of why I am so thankful. I have been fortunate to grow up in
church and Sunday School.
For a few years in high school and freshman year
in college, my attendance was sporadic, but then Ronda and I were married
and we have attended faithfully since.
During the years since we began attending
together we went through a couple of pastor changes.
Due to disagreements between the members and the
pastors, my fellowship struggled greatly.
We did not quit attending but we remained
faithful even when tensions were high at times.
This allowed us to gain valuable knowledge of
God and the Bible, but the fellowship continued to struggle.
As we read in Acts (4:24), a big part of the
blessing of the Lord comes to a church from being in one accord. The
blessing of the Holy Spirit, personally, was very sparse in this
environment.
Eventually I came to the realization that it was
time to leave that church and find a new one.
Our original intention was to visit
a few different churches and then decide which one seemed to fit us best.
As God led us, we came to Rowletts first . . .
and we have been here ever since.
From the first day we came through the doors we
have felt like family, and thanks to everyone for helping us feel that way.
The importance of fellowship with other
Christians cannot be over emphasized.
Now that we are all here, we should all help to
make sure everyone that comes, has the same experience we have had.
Many people already have, as we’ve heard.
