Unled Message
by A.J. Wilson

Sadly this week the Lord did not give me anything to write about, so there is no message for you this week…

As you can see that is not true, but in some pulpit today that is exactly what will be said to the congregation which has gathered to hear from the Lord.  A worship service usually includes many elements from prayer, singing, fellowship; and yet the element which differs a church worship service from any other meeting is the preaching.  When the early church met, it was to study the scriptures or to listen to the doctrines of the apostles.  So it makes me wonder why there are so many pulpits which use “spirit-led” to be a mask for lack of preparation.  I am by no means discounting the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to lead a preacher’s study and vision, but I know that there is an inexhaustible supply of messages from the scriptures.  The very scripture that is used to backup their stance can also be used to show that more study is needed.

“But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; “ Math 10:19

The first phrase refers to the context of the passage, which is Jesus instructing his disciples about coming persecution.  Jesus was trying to keep his disciples from wasting precious time worrying and preparing a response to the councils and governors.  Jesus was persecuted and he told his followers that they were not above their teacher, and would also experience trials and tribulations.  Rather than waiting for a feeling to deliver a message, Paul exhorts Timothy to be strong in the scriptures and to exercise himself unto godliness.

God always has a word for your life.  Sometimes the messages come with little effort and are easy to discern; and other times some study is necessary.

Trivia: Who is it that wrestled, physically, with God?
